Dynamic features for visual speech - reading : A systematic comparisonMichael
نویسندگان
چکیده
Humans use visual as well as auditory speech signals to recognize spoken words. A variety of systems have been investigated for performing this task. The main purpose of this research was to systematically compare the performance of a range of dynamic visual features on a speechreading task. We have found that normal-ization of images to eliminate variation due to translation, scale, and planar rotation yielded substantial improvements in generalization performance regardless of the visual representation used. In addition, the dynamic information in the diierence between successive frames yielded better performance than optical-ow based approaches, and compression by local low-pass ltering worked surprisingly better than global principal components analysis (PCA). These results are examined and possible explanations are explored.

Definition of Visual Speech Element and Research on a Method of Extracting Feature Vector for Korean Lip-Reading
In this paper, we defined the viseme (visual speech element) and described about the method of extracting visual feature vector. We defined the 10 visemes based on vowel by analyzing of Korean utterance and proposed the method of extracting the 20-dimensional visual feature vector, combination of static features and dynamic features. Lastly, we took an experiment in recognizing words based on 3...
متن کاملThe Effect of Word Meaning on Speech DysFluency in Adults with Developmental Stuttering
Objectives: Stuttering is one of the most prevalent speech and language disorders. Symptomology of stuttering has been surveyed from different aspects such as biological, developmental, environmental, emotional, learning and linguistic. Previous researches in English-speaking people have suggested that some linguistic features such as word meanings may play a role in the frequency of speech non...
متن کاملDynamic stream weight estimation in coupled-HMM-based audio-visual speech recognition using multilayer perceptrons
Jointly using audio and video features can increase the robustness of automatic speech recognition systems in noisy environments. A systematic and reliable performance gain, however, is only achieved if the contributions of the audio and video stream to the decoding decision are dynamically optimized, for example via so-called stream weights. In this paper, we address the problem of dynamic str...
متن کاملDesigning and implementing a system for Automatic recognition of Persian letters by Lip-reading using image processing methods
For many years, speech has been the most natural and efficient means of information exchange for human beings. With the advancement of technology and the prevalence of computer usage, the design and production of speech recognition systems have been considered by researchers. Among this, lip-reading techniques encountered with many challenges for speech recognition, that one of the challenges b...
متن کاملA model for the dynamics of articulatory lip movements
The present work is part of a framework to design and implement a language laboratory for speech reading/lip reading for multiple languages. It is based on the interdisciplinary project LIPPS at Technical University of Berlin, Germany, which aims to develop a training-aid for speech reading by employing a text-driven facial animation from a single passport photo with the help of 2D image morphi...
